Advanced Manual Therapy Techniques
Richardson Spine and Sports Therapy is a clinic that specializes in orthopedic and manual physical therapy. Manual Therapy is a subspecialty in Physical therapy that describes a variety of hands-on treatment techniques that are applied to movement dysfunctions. The manual therapist directs treatment towards correcting these movement dysfunctions and restoring musculoskeletal efficiency thus greatly reducing or eliminating the pain response. The main advantages to this type of therapeutic approach are the thoroughness of the evaluation process; a custom, tailored treatment program; one-on-one treatments, and continuity of care.

At Richardson Spine and Sports Therapy it is our sole, overriding goal that each and every patient is provided that individualized, tailored treatment program necessary for functional recovery. We also believe that this process can only be achieved by maintaining continuity of care, that is, the same therapist sees you for each and every visit in order to ensure accurate assessment, education of condition and appropriate progression of treatment.

While many physical therapists practice manual techniques, relatively few have completed post-professional residencies in manual therapy and are board certified. The owner of Richardson Spine and Sports Therapy, Joe Goodwin is board certified as both an orthopedic specialist and manual therapist. Less than 5% of all physical therapists in the country are board certified as both orthopedic specialists and in manual therapy. Numerous studies have shown that expertise in these areas leads to significantly improved outcomes with less costs and visits:
